The Challenge

The menu is one of the first things customers look at when they enter a restaurant. A well-designed menu is essential because it enhances the customer experience by making choices clear, visually appealing, and easy to navigate. Frosty's, a restaurant that commissioned us before, was in the process of expanding the food items they are serving; they wanted to sell bubble tea as well, next to poké bowls. They asked us to create a step-by-step menu similar to the one from before. Legibility and brand identity were important in this project as well.

The Solution

To match the interactive nature of bubble tea customisation, a step-by-step menu was designed to guide customers through the drink-making process clearly and efficiently. Similar to the poké bowl menu, this version breaks down the experience into stages: selecting a base tea, choosing a flavour, adding toppings, and adding extras. Each step is visually distinct, making it easy for customers to follow without assistance, especially during busy hours.

The menu was printed in A3 format to ensure visibility from the ordering counter, and font sizes were adjusted to maintain legibility across all steps. To distinguish each step, soft gradients were used, flowing from lighter to richer hues to mimic the layering of ingredients in a bubble tea cup. To complement the previously introduced hand-drawn style, an illustration of a cup of bubble tea was added. This not only serves as a decorative element but also helps customers visualise their choices. The right side of the menu subtly incorporates the fish scale motif, tying the new product back to Frosty's established identity. Overall, the new bubble tea menu maintains the balance between function and aesthetic, while offering a consistent and recognisable visual language across all of Frosty’s offerings.

The method in which the green bubble tea drink graphic were created for the menu starts from colour-blocking, and gradually becomes more detailed by adding the tapioca, swirls in the green liquid, and more realistic highlights on the glass and the straw.

The bubble tea menu design incorporates a minimalist aesthetic with white-outlined graphics, no fill, and a bold white title for strong visual impact. Key information is organized using white bold headings, regular white text for flavor listings, and bold white text for additional details. The background features a pink gradient that transitions from light to dark, creating visual depth, while an opaque fish scale pattern adds unique texture—enhancing the overall user experience and brand appeal.
