The Challenge

NullSpace, a start-up developing sport classes managing software, approached us to help improve the user interface and user experience of their platform. Their software is designed for gym owners and private sport instructors to create and manage classes, handle memberships, and organise client subscriptions. As a company in the pre-launch phase, NullSpace did not yet have any active customers. This presented a unique challenge: ensuring the product was intuitive, functional, and appealing for first-time users without relying on existing user data. They asked us to evaluate the platform’s usability and provide strategic design recommendations to help them prepare for a successful market entry.

The Solution

We delivered a design advisory report based on an in-depth UX and UI audit, tailored to the needs of a start-up preparing to onboard its first users. The first area of focus was the core functionality of the platform. We tested features such as class creation, user onboarding, and subscription management to identify any friction points or inefficiencies. Several actions required more steps than necessary, and key features were not always visible or intuitive. We proposed improvements to streamline workflows and ensure that key functions were easy to find and use, particularly for users who may not be tech-savvy.

Since there were no active users to observe, we worked closely with the NullSpace team through co-design sessions, where we developed user personas and mapped out journey scenarios that reflected the real needs of gym owners and sports instructors. These scenarios helped us simulate how users would interact with the software from initial sign-up to class management. We also carried out user testing with individuals from the target demographic, whose feedback was invaluable in identifying usability gaps and validating proposed design directions.

In addition, we highlighted areas where visual and textual inconsistencies disrupted the user experience. To address this, we recommended establishing a design system to unify button styles, typography, and tone of voice across the platform. Navigation was restructured to align with user expectations, and suggestions were made to improve clarity, reduce dead ends, and introduce helpful prompts. These changes aimed to create a smoother, more intuitive experience that would help NullSpace launch with confidence and build trust with their first users.
